The "chief" drawback to my mind is that it pollutes the firing ground with shrapnel that isn´t biologically degradable. Shouldn´t that be mentioned in the article? We don´t want to become polluters, do we?

Uh... not quite... Shoot off like 100 plastic shells without moving the mortar and tell me if you find any plastic... I've never saw anyone light these on the ground because thats a waste... and I've never seen shrapnel from a plastic shell...

Well, but there must be pieces of it as there are shell parts of cardboard/newspaper hemispheres. Nevertheless I see the advantages of plastic.
